Sometimes seemingly obvious words are not well understood. Most USA citizens refer to themselves as Americans. However, there is an enormous influx of Central Americans (for example, Mexico) and South Americans (for example, Argentina). Some of these are among the 13 Million undocumented travelers or illegals. The common meaning of "American" in the USA has changed. USA citizen is the more accurate term to describe a USA citizen, cumbersome as it may be.
